Starts Small, Then Goes Big and Nationwide
Currently, more than 70% of the hardware, tools, and construction material in Tanzania is imported from outside the country with more than half of this supply coming from low-cost and cheaper Chinese manufacturers. Our aim is to educate our clients of the differences between the high-quality tools we supply and the other inferior quality goods available in the market today.

Our parent company, M/S M.B.Kara Limited, started it’s operations in the small mining town of Shinyanga over 45 years ago where it supplied local roadworks and mining companies with a focus on hardware and plumbing items.

Rapid Expansion as demand for products increase
After the economic liberalization of the late 80’s, the Tanzanian market witnessed an expansion that saw an exponential growth in the domestic construction, mining and roadworks industries. As large-scale domestic and foreign players re-emerged, an increased demand for equipment, material and tools attracted strong competitors into the domestic market. The emergence of these large-scale players backed by the governments appetite for infrastructure projects made the Tanzanian market attractive to entrants.
National Expansion to Dar es Salaam
Eyeing national expansion during the early 90’s, our directors shifted focus to the capital city, Dar Es Salaam, and incorporated Kara Traders Ltd. The company quickly established itself in the domestic market and starting sourcing and importing goods from various parts of the world.

Over time, our product range has grown from hardware and plumbing items to hand tools and eventually into power tools and other machinery including oil and gas related supplies. Today we proudly supply the highest quality equipment sourced directly from manufacturers in Europe, India, China, Singapore, and Taiwan.
