Landmark Dodoma City Outer Ring Road project

The head of the African Development Bank Group joined Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan last week to inaugurate the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road project.

Hundreds of local residents gathered to witness the occasion in the country’s capital, Dodoma. They waved the Tanzanian flag and jubilated as the two leaders laid the foundation stone. The 112.3-kilometer road project, largely funded by the African Development Bank, forms part of the Trans-African Highway Corridor that links Cape Town to Cairo via Dodoma, crossing the Central Corridor via Dar es Salaam to the interior of Tanzania.

The ring road system is part of the 10,228km ‘Cape-to-Cairo Road’ pan-African highway which is a larger roadmap for Africa. This highway which passes through eight countries on the African continent . These countries are South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt.

Dodoma City will see a massive increase in it’s development in various forms of social infrastructure. Everything from community water supplies to redevelopment of feeder roads and pilot road safety measures around the project road in the city.

“The Dodoma Outer Ring Road is more than a road project. It will include well-designed social infrastructure that benefits the youth and women, strengthen the institutional capacity of the executing agencies, and deliver improved road safety measures,” said Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina. 

What does this mean?

• Large scale projects such as the Dodoma Outer Ring Road allow local trade suppliers to benefit greatly.
• Improved road infrastructure will allow goods to flow throughout the country with a greater ease.
• Development Funds will trickle down through the economy via traders, suppliers and even manufacturers
• Local suppliers can tender and supply materials to such projects from various industries

Overall, the project has been hugely applauded and the benefits of the Ring Road Project will be far beyond it’s reach.
